Team Members :Sammy Cappelli, John Stout
He finished 3rd in 2007, 2nd in 2008 and 2nd in 2009 in the points for the WRWA. Did a TV show with Cleveland Browns #73 Joe Thomas and Cleveland Plain Dealer outdoor writer D'Arcy Eagan on Pike fishing, it aired 13 times on Sports Time Ohio. We caught a walleye with a gps tracking device on it and the story was in several news papers across Ohio, also was in Ohio fish and game. The fish was caught using AFW 12# wire and Thundersticks on Lake Erie. 1 in 160,000 chance of catching a walleye with a tracking device.
Tournament Involvement:
Fished the MWC East, The WRWA, The OWF, 5 Time Cabelas National Team Championship
Seminar Involvement:
3 seminars at Gander Mountain Stores in 2009, 3 seminars at Gander Moutain Stores in 2010, Also doing a seminar for a 600 member club Berlin Lake Club
Targeted Fish:
Walleye... Walleye... and more Walleye
Top 3 HI-SEAS line and reasons why:
Fluorocarbon leader, we use fluorocarbon leader when trolling on Lake Erie because the lake is so clear we need a leader that is clear and durable.
Wildfire, I use this line on my jigging rods with a fluorocarbon leader when jigging the weeds it cuts right through the weeds and we need the leader because the water is clear.
Quattro, we use this line early in the year for our jigging rods...all I got to say "it's one tough line".
Top 3 AFW lines and reasons why:
Stainless Steel trolling wire, This is my favorite way to fish in the central basin of Lake Erie, we use wire with Quattro plus backing, we fish in 72' of water and try and key on the fish between 45-60', we know exactly how much wire to put on our reels to get our baits in that zone, we then use the Quattro as backing so we can then connect our lines to a inline planner board so we can spread our baits out to the sides of the boat, Lake Erie is so clear when you go over a school of fish the fish move out to the sides away from the boat and our baits are there waiting. If we didnt use Quattro backing we couldnt connect the boards to our lines and we would not catch as many fish. We have a system we run and we can have 4 wire line rods in the water back 400-550' and on baords in less than 2-3 mins.
mighty minis swivels, awesome product, we troll for 7-8 hours during tournaments and we can cought on the 100% mighty minis to keep our lines from twisting up.
Duo lock snaps, easy to open when things arnt going good and we have to keep changing lures to find what the walleye want, these snaps are going to fight us to open and they keep their shape, with the rounded ends our baits run true and we get all the action out of them.
Favorite Fishing Technique:
My team mate and I are one of the most versitile walleye teams out there, we can troll leadcore, wireline, jig the weeds in 2' of water or vibe fish 20' of water. My favorite technique is whatever is putting fish in the boat..but I love wire line on Lake Erie, where else can you go out and catch 30-40 walleye and all of them are 4-5 pounds with a few 7-10 pounds and an occasional 12-13 pounder.
Favorite Area to Fish:
Central Basin of Lake Erie but when it's too rough on the big pond I like to fish the inland lakes around Ohio.
Most Memorable Fishing Experience:
The Tv show with Joe Thomas was probly the coolest thing I ever done but the tournament I fished with my wife and we caught a 7.7 pound walleye at a inland lake and we won big fish and the tournament. It wasnt a real big tournament but it was fun to win with her.
When not fishing I like to…
I love to spend time with my Dad and my Son hunting deer on my buddies farm in SE Ohio. 2009 all 3 of us got a buck with my 14 year old getting the biggest buck again, I started Sammy at age 8 and he has 4 bucks and 2 does to his credit. I love to spend time with my wife Rhonda and my little girl Caitlin. I'm so lucky to have an awesome wife like Rhonda, she supports anything and everything I do. The hardest part of tournament fishing is being away from the family and especially my little girl Caitlin, I miss her the most and when I'm away I call home every day and she cries for me to come home....little heart breaker.
